The monograph published by the Doerner Institut in co-operation with Schirmer/Mosel Verlag and edited by Susanne von Arnim-Willisch and Bruno Heimberg throws light on the genesis, the exhibition history and the new and reinstallation of Beuys’ masterpiece in Munich. The book includes papers on the three other versions, located in Berlin, Düsseldorf and London.

The viewer is introduced to a philosophical construct of ideas aimed at allowing him to follow Beuys’ intentions concerning his work. Art historians, conservators and Beuys specialists, geologists and geodesists address the questions of reception and handling of the work, question that The End of the 20th Century still poses today, with no less urgency, even in this post-Beuys era.

The publisher Schirmer / Mosel Verlag has numerous other books on Joseph Beuys in its program. The book can be bought via Buchhandlung Walther König for the now reduced price of 39,80€.
