Shortly before the artist’s death in the Spring of 2004, a conservation campaign to ensure the stability of this work of art was undertaken in close consultation with him:

In the 1970s, Erich Hauser had taken the cost-saving decision to make the exposed base plate in iron and had subsequently painted it white for protection. The effects of the weather, among other things, had triggered corrosion in this iron base plate, which finally began to endanger the stability of the sculpture.

Following correspondence and discussions with the artist, the iron base plate was replaced by a new stainless steel plate.

Eventually, smaller surface imperfections will be removed by suitable conservation and restoration measures so as to re-establish the desired near flawlessness of the stainless steel sculpture.
