In close cooperation with The International Institute for Conservation (IIC), the Doerner Institut organized a conference titled The Object in Context: Crossing Conservation Boundaries, held in Munich from 28.08. to 01.09.2006. The desired contextualisation of conservation issues and conservation decisions by the selection of topics aimed to emphasise the multidisciplinary responsibility for the preservation of cultural property.
The conference gave participants from around the world the opportunity to intensively discuss not only current matters concerning conservation, restoration, art technology and conservation science, but particularly how to cross boundaries towards other academic disciplines.
It was impressive how the meaning of a work of art was thereby either rediscovered or revealed, showing how vast the knowledge of context influences conservation and restoration decisions in a lasting way.
