In light of this topic, all the selected papers and posters were interdisciplinary in content and presented works of art, technical cultural property and monuments from all time periods, from five continents and exceeding all language barriers. It proved to be an exciting and professionally productive week; it almost did not matter that the conference was held during the chilliest August week in fifty years.

The venue was the Auditorium Maximum at the Technical University of Munich. The Chair for Restoration, Art Technology and Conservation Science presented a well prepared exhibition on early writings about painting technique of the Technical University in the vestibule of the Audimax. The contract with the Technical University allowed approximately 100 members of the school free entry to the conference, which was mainly taken advantage of by the students of this chair.
