The case study for the Doerner Institute is the inside installation Double Garage by the Swiss artist Thomas Hirschhorn (born 1957) from 2002, which was shown on the previous page.  Double Garage is dedicated to the prehistory and response to 11.09.2001, when the United States became the target of a series of devastating attacks. The work of art is composed of a surface area of approximately 120 sqm and consists of almost 400 individual articles. The choice of materials used by Hirschhorn is also unusual; he used tape - not a very stable material - in a dominant creative way. These characteristics represent special conservation demands regarding documentation, preservation and also storage, which the case study in particular is concerned with.
