The palaces of Berlin and Potsdam possess one of the most important collections of 18th century French paintings in the world. The current work on the new complete catalogue of French paintings in the collections of the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg was also supported with analytical work by the Doerner Institut. Binding media and original varnishes were analyzed on selected works of Antoine Watteau (1684-1721), the most famous painter of the French Rococo period, as well as his pupils and successors, Nicolas Lancret (1690-1743) and Jean-Baptiste Pater (1695-1736).
