In connection with the Munich 2006 Congress of the International Institute for Conservation (IIC), the Doerner Institut initiated the project WISSENSSPEICHER. Conservation, Restoration and Research in Munich. In cooperation with over 20 cultural institutions in Munich, a network of 24 smaller and larger exhibitions were organised to inform the broad public about conservation, restoration and art technological questions. The Doerner Institut is convinced that aspects on the preservation and research of cultural property must be brought more offensively into the consciousness of the public and the media. In this way, the Doerner Institut intends to fulfill the obligation given by the Bavarian constitution to protect our cultural heritage. For the first time in their history, these cultural institutions in Munich have come together to form a network, in order to make their request public. The choice of the project name WISSENSSPEICHER is not coincidental; each one of the institutes involved, each staff member, and above all, each individual object of these collections is a source of knowledge and forms part of mankind’s memory.
