About us

The Doerner Institut belongs to the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen, works on the conservation and restoration of the extensive holdings of the Pinakothek Museums in Bavaria that range from 14th-century to contemporary works of art, carries out art-technological research and is responsible for museum and exhibition technique. Within the context of preventive conservation the Doerner Institut supervises structural and security issues related to the museum buildings.

Between 50 and 60 conservators, scientists and technicians work together at the Doerner Institut. The close correlation between conservation and restoration, the study of painting techniques, scientific research and art history contributes to the understanding as well as to the long-term preservation of the works of art and cultural assets.

The Doerner Institut is a non-university research institute and cooperation partner, recognised by the EU, working on national and international projects.
